Hello Everyone:
In addition to caring for the spiritual needs of our members and the community, Christ Disciples International (CDIM) pays significant attention to the general well being of its members and the community. We continue to organize various health promotion activities aimed at improving the health of our members. In particular, we collaborate with several Community Based Organizations in the Bronx and the New York City Department of Health on campaign such as Blood Pressure tests aimed at reducing the risks of stroke. We do this because we recognize that many of our members are faced with serious heart and other health problems and are aware that physical activity helps people maintain a healthy weight and strengthens the cardiovascular system.
This summer with forty youth workers from the Summer Youth Employment Program sent from New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Christ Disciples International Ministries, Inc. (CDIM) is conducting a public health campaign to create awareness of the risks of asthma and obesity in the Bronx. We teach risks reduction and stress avoidance of the environmental triggers of asthma. The youths take the campaign to religious and day care centers, public housings, shelters, food pantries as well as soup kitchens, and hold face-to-face group discussions on the subjects.
The campaign will culminate with a health fair that we have planned for August 14, 2010. More than fifty human service organizations, 300 individuals, several communities from New York City and leaders from each of the twelve Bronx’s Community Districts will participate in the health fair.
I am inviting all my friends in New York State to attend the health fair. We plan to hold the fair on 162nd Street, between Westchester and Prospect Avenues. We are working with NYC government to close 162nd street for the health fair. If you need exposure for your business, you may wish to send your business card to me, and we will insert a message for you in the health fair program bulletin for $10.00. The program literature will be distributed in all the twelve community districts in the Bronx.
