Therefore, it is sufficient for us that God’s Word is the regulation sword which we must readily employ to assail Satan. He cannot stand against but must bow to the Word of God. So utilize the word of God against Satan’s doubts and all his tricks. We are bidden to take the Word; and if we, in willfulness resolve to exchange it for another, we commit an act of rebellion, and may make the change at our own risk and peril. Come, then, and let each one of us take the Word of God, and carry it nearer our hearts than ever; for such is the word of command, "Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:17
Destroying Doubts with the Sword of the Spirit
I believe that you will be blessed. I am sending you the elements of our sermon on destroying doubts with the Sword of the Spirit. The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. So, at all times, "take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Ephesians 6:17
Following is what God says about his word. "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:29 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12.
My dear friend, to live as a Christian in this world is to be a warrior. And as a warrior and a good soldier of Jesus Christ, we must not expect to find ease. This world is a battle-field. Nothing but our eternal damnation will satisfy the fiendish hearts of Satan and his crew. In this combat, we are to use a sword mighty through God and capable “of dividing asunder” the tricks of our foe and piercing into the “joints and marrow” of his hellish lies and deceptions. In Jesus Christ, we are to live through this fight, and come off victorious. Our conflict requires a sharp and two-edged sword, which the Word of God is. To use it is to believe wholly and squarely what God says. We must profess and confess it and hold on to the profession of God’s Word without wavering. This is our victory.
Our foe has so many weapons in his vicious arsenal. Doubt is one of such deadly weapons. With doubts he clouds up and diminishes our faith in the Word of God. Thus, he distracts us from the real source our blessings. Sometimes he offers us a façade and at other times he flashes on our faces temporary solutions designed to distract our dependence on God. As stated earlier, substandard existence, defeat, perpetual disobedience of God and our eternal damnation are his goal. To counter his deception, we must faithfully speak God’s Word. Faith is the key that unlocks heavens store from which our blessings will flow.
We need implicit faith in God’s Word. We must know too, that God is too holy to change. No matter what we face, we must confess our faith in God's power and loudly declare our success in God. Satan loathes and hates such confessions. In the Garden of Eden; Satan used doubt against Eve and caused her to disbelief God. Thus, she and her husband – Adam – missed God’s mark. “He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden?" Genesis 3:1.
Let me share with you two examples of triumphs with the Word of God - the sword of the Spirit and spur your trust in God: Fisrt, three times, Jesus used the Word of God against Satan in the wilderness and conquered him when he was tempted. He simply said: "It is written" followed by what was written against the tempter. Mathew 3:4-10.
Second, when Eliezer – the head servant – of Abraham doubted that the woman he would marry for Isaac might be willing to return with him to the
