FOOD INSECURITY AND COVID-19

Posted on Wed, Jun 17, 2020

Never in my adult life have I witnessed so many people on such long lines waiting for food

Today, in one single day, we served a total of 6,659 people in our food program - 3, 469 adults, 2,980 children, and 212 seniors.  The number of people in need of food each day for whom we distribute food is indescribably amazing. COVID-19 has come to compound our already chaotic food insecurity problem. Never in my adult life have I witnessed so many people waiting on such a long line for food! Regrettably, hunger is our community's major public health dilemma. We aren’t relenting in our hard fight to eradicate it.  It's the community's problem requiring collective commitment and sacrifices. Appreciably, we are winning. Thanks to the USA Small Business Administration, FEMA, NYC Human Resources Administration, the United Way for the City of New York, the Food Bank for the City of New York, the City Harvest, the New York Cares, the National Guards, several other institutions and countless men and women collaborating with us in sharing their resources, as well as volunteering their time as together we fight to defeat hunger in our community. God Is Good!
