Taking stock of our spiritual lives

Posted on Sun, Oct 19, 2008

Now is time to take stock of our relationship with God and mend our ways. “…today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts….” Hebrews 3:15. We soon will stand face to face with God and give account of ourselves to Him. Thus, it is all important that you and I know for certain today that we are right with Him. We are cautioned against obstinacy. “I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.” Luke 12:5

As we read the newspapers and watch the television, we learn of our deteriorating economy and the global financial crisis. Concerns mount daily about the world stock markets, the financial future of our country and the prospect of recovery. There are ominous signs of the dreaded recession.  We believe that with the recent passage of a stimulus package by the Congress and the united prayer of all of God’s children, God will change the situation.

Notwithstanding, there is another area with superseding importance and we must address it individually. It is our relation ship with God? The question is: Are you happy where you are today in your relationship with God? Viewed from recent world events, we are at the verge of the return of Jesus Christ. And He is returning as a judge. Are you ready to meet Him?  The Scriptures say:  “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31  “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:44

Are there things in your life with which you are so occupied that you have no room today to consider your spiritual health? Neither marriage, nor vocation, nor friendship, nor wealth, nor even your station in life should be the problem. My friend, at you death or the appearing of Jesus Christ,  if your sins are not covered with His blood and your relationship with God healthy, .you will be separated from God and doomed for the severest of hardships, regrets and sorrows throughout an endless eternity. It is written  “…every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12. Jesus said “a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”

My friend, if your relationship with God is not sound, there is hope for you today while we still have time. But you must prayerfully surrender yourself to God and cry out to Him in repentance. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9. Take Him at His word and entrust your life to Him. Read the bible habitually. You are clean through the word of God. John 15:3 God’s word is able to sustain and keep you daily. Therefore, like David of old, seek God with your whole heart. “With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments? Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”  Psalms 119:9-11 .  Remain blessed.
