We must enjoy all the benefits that the Holy Spirit freely gives out and continually nurture our relationship with him through prayer and constant bible reading. He will teach us the ways of God and faithfully guide us to obey them.
Today is Pentecost Sunday when we remember the occasion that the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles of Jesus Christ. They were gathered in the Upper Room at Jerusalem as Jesus Christ had instructed. We find this account in Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11.
The Spirit of God in a form of a strong wind filled the entire house. And like the tongues of fire, he rested on each one of them. Filled with the Spirit, the apostles started to speak in different tongues. This experience dramatically changed their lives and revolutionized the work Jesus had committed to them prior to his ascension. Power, energy, boldness and absolute dependence on God ensued. Consequently, thousands of souls were saved and added to the church and many whose lives were distressed with diseases were delivered. Jesus had earlier said” I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these” John 14:12 . This was fulfilled in the apostles’ ministries.
Basically, the Holy Spirit takes the things of God and carefully explains them to us. He conditions our hearts to perform the work of God with a great zeal and focuses on glorifying Jesus Christ in our lives. All the recorded deeds that the apostles accomplished in the early church were possible because the Holy Spirit were in them dispensing his strength as they needed. And he is ever present today for you and me in all areas. When we pray for example, he helps us to pray and ably presents our needs to God. Romans 8:26 Jesus said “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”. John 14:26 .
We must enjoy all the benefits that the Holy Spirit freely gives out and continually nurture our relationship with him through prayer and constant bible reading. He will teach us the ways of God and faithfully guide us to obey them. But we must be willing to listen as he will never compel us. Dear friend may the Pentecostal power and all the ensuing miracles rest on you today and always as you choose to obey God.
