The Surpassing Glory of the New Covenant

The New Covenant… It does not condemn men, but sets them free from sins, enables God-glorifying living; overwhelms men with grateful hearts and ennobles them for access to all that pertains to life and godliness

Now if the ministry that brought death, (Old Covenant) which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that condemns men (Old Covenant) is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness (New Covenant)! For what was glorious (Old Covenant) has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory (of the New Covenant). And if what was fading away (Old Covenant) came with glory, how much greater is the glory of (New Covenant) that which lasts! 2 Corinthians 3: 7-11.

The Old Covenant tells you of what you must do, failing which you must die. The New Testament shows you what God has done for you – a sinner – in Jesus Christ which you may embrace and be credited with righteousness. “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Romans 4:3. Thus, Jesus Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. (Romans 4:10)

This is the surpassing glory of the New Covenant. It does not condemn men, but sets them free from sins, enables God-glorifying living; overwhelms men with grateful hearts and ennobles them for access to all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.

Matthew 25: 35-36
